Juana Molina: Un Dia

Having mistakenly jumbled Juana Molina with Jason Molina after a confusing hair-in-face photograph mix-up, it’s all cleared up. Juana Molina, quite clearly, is female. She’s got a beautiful voice and her new album (her 5th) due to be released on Domino is a perfect blend of coos and sighs and handclaps. Domino say it’s adventurous and magical. Juana sings…

“One day I will sing the songs with no lyrics and everyone can imagine for themselves if it’s about love, disappointment, banalities or about Plato.”

Learn about knitting

How to make a bobble hat.

[ Bobble hat photographs coming soon... ]

You’ll need the following things.

1. A pair of 10mm knitting needles
2. A ball of Rowan Big Wool (although I’ve used Blue Sky Alpacas Bulky Naturals).

Here’s the pattern:

Cast on 21 sts using 10mm needles.
Row 1 to 3: Knit
Row 4 (WS): K13, wrap next st and turn.
Row 5: K13.
Row 6: K16, wrap next st and turn.
Row 7: K16.
Rows 8 and 9: As rows 4 and 5.
Row 10: Knit.
Then repeat these 10 rows 6 times more.
If you’re using bulky naturals – I only had to repeat 8 times, it’s chunkier than Rowan big wool.
Cast off.

Abbreviations:
wrap next st – Slip next stitch, bring yarn to front (ws) of work between needles and slip same stitch back onto left needle. Then take yarn back to (RS) of work.

Voice in Headphones is wonderful, beautiful, layered. Phil Elverum singing over Julie Doiron’s chorus of Bjork’s Undo, “It’s not meant to be a strife, it’s not meant to be a struggle uphill.”

Department of Eagles: No one does it like you

I wasn’t at all fussed about the last Department of Eagles album. I listened to it once and dismissed it. I do have rather a tendency to do that – so it has taken me a little while to listen to their latest album.

This, however, is something else. It’s got a much fuller sound, there are gorgeous instrumentals and if you like Grizzly Bear – you can’t help but love this album.

Department of Eagles is fronted by Daniel Rossen of Grizzly Bear who plays with his friend Fred Nicolaus. This latest album has been produced by Chris Taylor (also of Grizzly Bear fame).
